This blog is a visual articulation of MY views of the world around me. I will present various sides of arguments, and always sum them up with my own personal take.

My more entertaining/diverse/ridiculous/lovable blog can be found at http://mrjdjude.tumblr.com/ and I'll do all of my following from that blog as well!

Thanks and enjoy!

Q & A with FOR COLORED GIRLS... Director Jamil Jude

In conjunction with the production I talked about yesterday we did this Q&A. I got so engulfed with the production I never really had a chance to articulate all of my feelings about the work. Thanks again to @forumtheatre!

Feeling Good!

Shout out to Nina Simone who provided the soundtrack to my latest production. Thanks to the support Colored People’s Theatre  received from the DC community in the summer, we were granted an opportunity to remount the show with Forum Theatre and Round House Theatre

For this production of for colored girls…, we played the idea of collecting stories, experiences and gifts to pass down to future generations (Check out the review here!).Our Lady in Brown, at 7 months pregnant, was the perfect muse for our story. We set this go round at a baby shower and I was so pleased with the outcome.

This cast really worked their butts off to pull this one out. I am eternally grateful for their work and their belief in me. I’ve been so encouraged by these productions. I thank God for blessing me to work in the field I love and to do the things I enjoy!

I had no idea when I moved to DC less than two years ago that this day would come. Now here we are, TWO WEEKS away from opening the first show in CPT’s history! Wow! What a ride!

It is a testament to the belief we all had in the work and the desire to create a space where we can explore the…

Updates (5/30)

Happy Memorial Day to all!

This week is going to be quite a busy and exciting one! We start rehearsals for CPT’s production of for colored girls who considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf tomorrow. I’m super excited. I think we have a great cast assembled and I can’t wait to get to work.

Producing this show has been a great learning experience. Producing at Arena is SO different than doing something on your own. Both will prove to make me a better producer in the future but producing on someone else’s $20 million dollar budget can’t compare to doing something with a couple thousand dollars…

I think I’m going to see Woolly Mammoth’s production of Bootycandy today. I’m interested to see what this show is about. I know it is a look at a young Black boy’s life as he grows up Black and gay. A couple of actor friends are in the show so I’m glad to support. Last week I worked on setting up a ticket exchange between theaters. Trying to find new and improved ways of partnering with the DC theater community.

At Arena I’ll continue to work on Psalmayene 24’s workshop of his new play Journey to the Door of No Return (June 20-24). I’ll also be the backstop for Katori Hall’s NYC workshop of her play Pussy Valley. That has been quite a learning experience as well…

I plan on being broke for the entire month of June and July :( I hope I can pay the rent and the rest of my bills come the 5th. If not, can I sleep on your couch?
