This blog is a visual articulation of MY views of the world around me. I will present various sides of arguments, and always sum them up with my own personal take.
My more entertaining/diverse/ridiculous/lovable blog can be found at http://mrjdjude.tumblr.com/ and I'll do all of my following from that blog as well!
Thanks and enjoy!
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
So I encourage you all to watch this clip. I’m very conflicted on this one. While I want to see more movies featuring Black actors and stories that normalize a Black experience, I’m not sure if I want this movie to come out. It reflects the hip-hop generation and I’m not sure if this is either an accurate or positive reflection (not all need to be positive but all need to be accurate). Meagan will probably stink it up as an actress as she is wont to do but I think that the movie will be a miss. Unfortunately, with each miss, I think that gives Hollywood another reason to keep Black movies from hitting the screen. Black artists do need safe spaces to experiment and create, for the good or for the bad, but there isn’t much space for that. Maybe if we had more Black owned studios, or studios that cared more about that type of work, or if Tyler would actually produce other’s work on a large scale, maybe we would have those spaces, but alas, we may just have to keep pumping out indie work and hopefully it will be able to counteract the Hollywood Shuffle.
Sorry that I tagged this as black film and not a black movie. I realize how this could be different.
